IQ with PR Infer Question Predict Relate |
|
Infer |
Infer means to guess that something is true or to form an opinion from the information that a reader has. Excellent readers infer all the time. For example, if a person is crying because their cat died, A reader may infer that the person is sad. |
Question |
What? You don’t know what a question is? Really? Are you sure? Who was your teacher last year? These are all questions. Excellent readers are always questioning what they read. Sometimes they question if the text is true or false, sometimes they question why a character is behaving in such a way. In short, excellent readers are curious! |
Predict |
Predict means to make a guess as to what will happen later. Excellent readers make good guesses by relating the text to other information they know. Just like inferring, good readers use what they know from the text, from personal experience and from their knowledge of the world to make predictions. |
Relate |
Excellent readers relate to the text they are reading. The make connections. If they relate the text they are reading to another story or book it is called a Text to Text (TT) relationship. If a reader relates the text to their own life it is called a Text to Self (TS) relationship. If a reader relates the text to something from the world around them, it is called a Text to World (TW) relationship. |
