mal + function = malfunction to fail or not operate correctly, to go bad The computer malfunction caused us a big problem.  
mal + icious = malicious to harm or do bad to someone The malicious rumor was made to harm the new student.
mis + behave = misbehave to act in a bad or incorrect way Erika misbehaved in class today.  She will have detention.  
mis + understand = misunderstand to understand in an incorrect or wrong way You misunderstand me.  I want you to go away, not stay!
non + smoking = nonsmoking smoking is not allowed Most schools in the United States are nonsmoking.  
non + sense = nonsense something that does not make sense The rules do not make sense.  No barking in class?
re + do = redo to do something over again I must redo my test.  I failed it the first time.  
re + write = rewrite to write something over again I must rewrite my essay.  There were too many mistakes.
